Like a Farmer

Be patient.

They say patience is a virtue and I can attest to that.

It’s incredibly hard to wait whether it be on something or someone.

Waiting sucks.

Especially when you want it so badly.

Especially when you put in the work and you’re ready.

Oh, but it’s just not time.

Be patient.

We’re taught from a young age that good things come to those who wait. But, I think a better phrase would be, ‘good things come so just be patient.’

It’s inevitable that good things always come.

No matter the storm, the sun will always shine. The grass will always grow. The flowers will always bloom.

We know this.

So, why do we worry?

Why aren’t we patient?

Because somehow in our minds, we have convinced ourselves that the lies in which fear, stemming likely from doubt, and/or our insecurities, is the truth.

We are quick to lose trust in what we know; that good things are coming. We have prepared. We have put in the work. Now, we wait. Now, we are patient.

I don’t think there is a better example of patience than farming.

Farmers prepare their fields all year long. So much prep work goes into it. They till the fields. They plant the seeds. They fertilize. They water. They pull the weeds. They do everything.

And then they wait.

Now, I’m not saying they don’t worry. After all, they are humans too.

But, they do know that their crops will grow.

So, in the waiting, you won’t find them staring at their fields all day, everyday waiting for the sprouts to bud. Oh no.

They use their time in the waiting like it’s a gift. Because it is.

They have family to spend time with, animals to care for, and machinery to fix.

Heck, maybe they even go on vacation or sleep in. Maybe they can relax knowing that they did the work. Therefore, they can release the control, fear, and worry because they know their crops will grow.

So, my friends, did you do the work? Are you in a season of waiting?

If so, it’s time.

Time to be patient; like a farmer.

Your good things are coming.
